Inside Scotch of St James

Scotch of St James is one of the most storied rooms in London nightlife. Hidden in Mason's Yard in St James's, a short walk from Piccadilly and Green Park, it opened on 14 July 1965 and sat at the centre of the city's swinging sixties. It is the room where Jimi Hendrix played his first London show — on the very night he arrived in England, 24 September 1966 — and where the Jimi Hendrix Experience later played their first UK gig. It closed in the eighties and was restored and reopened in 2012. Today it runs as an intimate late-night club. We book Scotch on Thursdays.
VIP Tables at Scotch of St James
A table at Scotch of St James buys you the best of an intentionally small room: reserved seating in the prime areas, a dedicated host for your group all night, premium bottle service and priority entry. Because the venue is intimate by design, table availability is genuinely limited — more so than at a large club — and Thursdays sell out. It's a natural fit for birthdays, client entertaining and groups who want somewhere with real character rather than a warehouse.
How to Get to Scotch of St James
Scotch of St James is at 13 Mason's Yard, St James's, London SW1Y 6BU — a quiet courtyard tucked between Duke Street and King Street, moments from Piccadilly. The nearest Tube stations are Green Park and Piccadilly Circus, both a few minutes' walk. Parking in St James's is impractical at night, so the Tube, a black cab or a ride-hailing app is the sensible choice. Mason's Yard is easy to walk past — it's a courtyard, not a street frontage — so allow a moment to find it.
Dress Code & Entry Requirements
Scotch of St James expects a smart dress code in keeping with its St James's setting, though it leaves room for individuality — a well-cut blazer or a vintage leather jacket both work here. No sportswear, trainers, shorts or ripped clothing. Bring valid physical photo ID. Given the size of the room, arriving with a confirmed booking matters more here than almost anywhere else in London.
